Saskatchewan’s minimum wage to rise 24 cents to $10.96 per hour in October

Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is going up.

The increase is to take effect on Oct. 1 and will lift the minimum wage to $10.96 an hour.

The current minimum wage in Saskatchewan, which was brought in last October, is $10.72.

Saskatchewan’s minimum wage is reviewed annually based on changes to the consumer price index and the average hourly wage for the previous year.

Any changes are announced by June 30 and take effect Oct. 1.

The province says there are almost 50,000 minimum-wage and low-wage earners in Saskatchewan, and that nearly 70 per cent of them work in retail, or accommodation and food services.
