Suspicious package in north Red Deer ‘likely a homemade explosive’: RCMP

Red Deer RCMP said a suspicious package that was neutralized on the city’s north side Tuesday night was likely a homemade explosive device.

At around 4:30 p.m., officers were called to the Key Towing compound on 49 Avenue north of 76 Street.

The area was evacuated as a precaution and the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was brought in.

Shortly before 10:15 p.m., police said the scene had been cleared and there was no further risk to the public.

The investigation is ongoing.
