Driver charged after crash traps occupants in vehicle near Elie, Man.

A 41-year-old man is facing charges after a crash closed a portion of Highway 1 Monday night near Elie, Man.

The crash happened at the Trans-Canada Highway intersection with Highway 248 around 7:40 p.m.

RCMP said a pickup truck towing a trailer rear ended a semi stopped at a red light. The two occupants of the pickup truck, a 16-year-old teen and the 41-year-old driver, were trapped inside. Once they were extricated they were brought to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

The driver of the pickup truck was charged with drive carelessly.

Westbound lanes on Highway 1 were closed for a little more than one hour.
