Fake modelling agent loses bid to have sexual assault conviction set aside

A man who sexually assaulted five women after posing as a modelling agent has lost his bid to have his conviction set aside because of court delays.

In BC Supreme Court, lawyers for Novid Stefano Dadmand had argued that by the time a Dangerous Offender hearing was complete, Dadmand would have had to wait 18 months for sentencing, violating his Charter Rights.

But in a decision posted online, Justice Paul Pearlman said the delay is not unreasonable given the circumstances of the case.

Dadmand was convicted last year after posing as an Australian agent online and luring girls between the ages of 19 and 28, in Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver between 2012 and 2014.

A dangerous offender hearing is set to get underway later this month, and like Dadmand’s trial, will feature audition videos showing him assaulting women, some pleading with him to stop.
