Impaired driving charges laid in crash that killed London mother, daughter

Exactly one month after a woman and her daughter were killed in a crash along the 401 near Dutton, the other driver involved has been charged.

Elgin County OPP say 53-year-old Hubert Domonchuk of Cambridge faces seven charges including two each of impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Officers say he was also charged with possession of cannabis resin.

On Aug. 29, 42-year-old Sarah Payne and her five-year-old daughter, Freya, died after a pickup truck crossed the 401 into the westbound lanes of the highway near Dutton and hit their minivan.

Payne’s six-year-old son was also hurt in the crash.

The OPP says Domonchuk is set to appear in a St. Thomas court on Nov. 14.
