Montreal’s Laurent-Duvernay Tardif suffers knee injury during Monday night NFL action

Hometown NFL star Laurent Duvernay-Tardif injured his left knee on Monday night, in first-quarter action as the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Redskins for the win in Washington.

Duvernay-Tardif, who recently signed a five-year $41.25-million contract extension with the Chiefs, was attempting a block to make way for Kareem Hunt when his knee twisted.

He was escorted off the field and stayed out for the rest of the game.

Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid said the third-year offensive lineman suffered a sprained knee.

The extent of his injury is being assessed by doctors on Tuesday.

It’s not yet known how long Duvernay-Tardif will be out, but an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL) could spell an end to his season.

The Chiefs are currently without centre Mitch Morse, who missed two consecutive games due to a foot injury and backup guard Parker Ehinger who had surgery for an ACL injury.
