A U.S. woman who was seriously injured in a car crash in Surrey has now died.

Mariam Ghaly, 42, from Bellingham, Washington, was travelling with her family in Surrey last Sunday when their Honda CRV rolled over into a ditch on King George Boulevard, after witnesses say the van was cut off by a motorcycle.

Ghaly passed away on Friday after the accident left her in a coma for six days.

A GoFundMe account has now been set up for her family to help pay for funeral costs and other expenses.

It states Ghaly is survived by her loving husband Wagih and her two young children Marina, 15 and Kyrollos, 13.

Last Sunday, Sgt. David MacDonald said he did not know if the family was submerged in the water upside down while waiting for first responders, but the ditch is typically quite full and deep.

MacDonald said it appeared the motorcycle forced the Honda “to take evasive action to prevent a collision, however it over-corrected.” The motorcyclist did not remain at the scene.

The owner was later detained and questioned, but later released without charges.

It is unclear if charges will be laid going forward.
