Pepper spray potentially the cause of southwest Calgary arena evacuation

About 100 people were forced to leave the Flames Community Arena in southwest Calgary on Wednesday after people complained of “minor breathing discomfort.”

Firefighters responded to the arena at around 8 p.m. and the building was evacuated shortly thereafter.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) said an investigation found there was no chemical leak and they suspect the breathing issues may have been caused by pepper spray, although they could not confirm that was the case.

No one from inside the arena required any medical attention, and no injuries were reported.
