RCMP have concluded an investigation into a reported throat-cutting assault that happened in Okotoks on the weekend, saying the incident “did not take place as originally reported.”
In a social media post on Sunday, the girl’s mother said her family was in shock after their 16-year-old daughter was assaulted in the backyard of their home.
The mother said her daughter was letting their dog out when she was approached by a man who put a knife up to the girl’s neck during a struggle.
The woman said her daughter was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital and received stitches.

“Following a thorough investigation, the RCMP have determined that this event did not take place as originally reported,” RCMP said in a Friday release.
“This reported situation became magnified as a result of social media,” Cpl. Darryl Dawkins said.
Police said the situation is a reminder to the public that RCMP investigators are committed to “diligently investigate complaints and report on them accurately.”
Police said their investigation has concluded and they are not looking for any suspect or more information.
