A raccoon appearance at a Shoppers Drug Mart has capped off another year of the animal’s unusual antics in Toronto.
Photos posted to social media show a well-fed raccoon perched on a wall by the self-checkouts on Saturday.
It’s unclear how the masked shopper got in the store, said to be located near Leslie Street and Lake Shore Boulevard in the east end.
Shoppers Drug Mart’s corporate office did not respond to 640 Toronto’s requests for comment, but the store’s manager told the Toronto Star that the raccoon spent about half an hour at the store before it was removed.
As in previous years, the mischievous, masked mammals made headlines throughout 2017 — often for showing up at unexpected locations throughout the city.
Just over a week before the appearance at Shoppers, a gutsy raccoon made its way onto a subway platform and casually tried to board a TTC train at Bloor station.
Rush-hour train service was briefly delayed.

In the west end, a family of raccoons was responsible for shutting down an RBC bank branch for several weeks after making a home in the ceiling.
A spokesman explained that the branch had been closed in late August to tackle the repairs required.
And in May, passengers waiting for their luggage at Pearson International Airport got some free post-flight entertainment courtesy of a curious raccoon.
Videos posted to social media showed the critter poking its head out of the ceiling tiles.
