City manager Jeff Fielding confirmed to Calgary city councillors on Monday that transportation general manager Mac Logan had resigned, while remaining tight-lipped on the reasons for his departure.

Logan had been on leave for several weeks for a personal matter.

The news of his departure came on the same day councillors learned the city had been honoured with two awards; one from the Transportation Planning Council and another from the Transportation Association of Canada.

“I want to acknowledge the tremendous leadership,” Council. Colley-Urquhart said, honouring Logan’s hard work for the city. “Through his leadership and his teambuilding and his vision for this city, [he] has directly resulted in the city receiving these awards.”

Fielding said he and Logan reached a mutual decision and that Logan would be replaced by Michael Thompson, who had been standing in as acting general manager while Logan was on leave.

“I trust he’ll do a more than adequate job,” Fielding said.

“More than adequate? He’s going to do a terrific job,” Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi replied playfully after Fielding announced the change in leadership.
