Winnipeg police believe a 17-year-old girl burned a North End home down over $10.
“A fight arose over a $10 payment and one participant was removed from the house. The ejected party broke a large window and returned threatening retaliation at which time a fire was deliberately set,” Const. Jay Murray said.
Police believe a group of people were in the home drinking alcohol and consuming methamphetamine.
The fire destroyed the home in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue Friday morning, also leaving the neighbours unable to return to their home either.
John Donovon and his six kids live in the house next door. They feel lucky to be alive and safe.
“The neighbour woke me up at about 7:15, we came outside and the house next door was on fire,” he said.

The family is now staying with relatives, but Donovon said he’s frustrated by the fact the house fire was started by someone who lit it on purpose.
“People are being very reckless, not thinking of other people,” he said. “Three of my children were upstairs on that third floor.”
A family friend has set up a GoFundMe campaign to help the Donovans.
On Friday, fire officials didn’t have a damage estimate.
