While the exact cause of the fire in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier has not been officially determined, one hypothesis is that a lit candle fell on bedding.

Thirteen of the hotel’s 14 rooms were occupied when the fire started in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Nobody was injured, although some people suffered minor smoke inhalation.

But as there are no windows, the smoke left a strong smell.
The hotel will be closed for at least a few days.
In 2009, a fire destroyed the ice hotel’s administrative offices, which were in a separate building.
