Anne Murray joins Nenshi for National Music Centre ground breaking

CALGARY – Legendary Canadian music icon Anne Murray joined Calgary Mayor Nenshi at the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new National Music Centre, on Friday.

The facility will be a celebration of the history of music in Canada, including a huge collection of musical instruments.

It will also feature performance spaces, recording studios and artist-in-residence programs.

Officials hope to have the project completed by 2015, and describe it as the gateway into a revitalized East Village.

Alberta Premier Alison Redford and Calgary M.P. Jason Kenny joined those at Friday’s celebration.

The party will continues Friday evening, with a public concert at the Golden Age Club in the East Village, featuring live music by local artists including the King Eddy Blues All-Stars.
