Provincial police have laid charges of impaired driving against a 20-year-old woman in connection with a collision on Hwy. 401 over the weekend.
Middlesex OPP said they were called to the scene along the highway near Westminster Drive around 5:30 a.m. Saturday for a collision involving a transport truck and SUV.
Officers were informed by a complainant that the SUV’s driver had initially stopped, but later re-entered their vehicle and drove off. The badly damaged SUV was found west of the collision.
Police took the driver into custody after determining her to be under the influence. A breath test later found she had more than the legal limit of alcohol in her blood, police said.
A 20-year-old woman from Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation faces charges, including driving while ability impaired, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, and take vehicle without consent.

The accused was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with having blood alcohol content above zero as a young driver, police said.
The accused is set to appear in court in London on Mar. 21.
