The head of the Ontario’s police watchdog says it’s clear that London police weren’t even present when a woman, 32, was killed earlier this month.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was called in because police had dealings with the suspect just before Christina Smith’s death.

On Feb. 8, a stolen pickup truck in the area of Hamilton Road and Egerton Street in London refused to stop for police and was later found abandoned nearby.
The SIU concluded that, unbeknownst to police, the suspect then stole another pickup truck from a nearby residence.
Smith, who was trying to prevent the theft, was killed in the process.
“It is clear that no police officer was present at the time this tragic inciddent occurred,” said director Tony Loparco.
“Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation.”
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
