North Saskatchewan Regiment receives Afghanistan Theatre Battle Honour

For the first time since the conclusion of the Second World War, the North Saskatchewan Regiment (N Sask R) has added to its regimental colours.

At a ceremonial parade at Hugh Cairns V.C. Armoury on Saturday, the Saskatoon regiment received the Afghanistan Theatre Battle Honour.

It recognizes the efforts of 39 soldiers from the local regiment who served overseas, during the Canadian mission in Afghanistan.

“I think it’s going to be a lot of regimental pride and some inspiration to see what veterans and soldiers in this unit have done and how they’ve contributed,” said Lt.-Col. Tom Mykytiuk, commanding officer of the regiment.

“It will inspire other people to contribute when they have an opportunity.”

N Sask R has a regular strength of roughly 100 members.
