Premier Wall returns from Washington after talking Keystone, clean coal

As Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall returns from a two day diplomatic trip to Washington, DC, he is “cautiously optimistic” about the future of the Keystone XL Pipeline.  

Wall met with senators to discuss the pipeline and clear up any misconceptions they had about the project.

The decision now lies with U.S. president Barack Obama and if approved the pipeline would mean thousands of jobs and increased economic activity on both sides of the border.  

While the pipeline dominated discussions the premier said the highlight of the trip was the interest from senators in Saskatchewan’s clean coal project near Estevan. 

It was a good part of the message to have to say, ‘Yes we’d like to see approval of Keystone, yes we know we need to do better by the environment, but here’s what we’re doing in Saskatchewan’,” Wall explained. “We’re leading in this area internationally and we’re happy to have others look at the technology.”
