Damian Warner was in the 980 CFPL studios Thursday morning as he prepares for his return to the Commonwealth Games in April.

The former Montcalm Secondary School student only had a few days to spend in his hometown. Just last week, Warner was busy winning silver in the heptathlon at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, England.

Warner told 980 CFPL the margin between him and the gold-medal winner, Kevin Mayer of France, was minuscule.

“I was five points behind the guy that finished first… that’s about half a second in the 1,000-metre or a couple centimetres in the long jump,” said Warner on the Craig Needles Show.

Warner, who won bronze in the decathlon at the 2016 Olympics, also talked about readjusting to reality after competing at the international sporting event.

“Everything’s just super exciting and then you come back and things have changed a little bit, you have to make your own dinner. All that stuff that you were taking for granted is no longer there,” said Warner.

London-born figure skater Tessa Virtue tweeted about that same adjustment after winning gold in the team event at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

Warner will be looking to keep his spot as champion next month when he returns to the Commonwealth Games in Australia. He took home gold during the 2014 games in Glasgow.
