TORONTO – Dozens of concerned Torontonians packed Scarborough’s Parkway Mall Saturday to voice their opinions on several hypothetical casino proposals – including a plan for a casino at Exhibition Place.
While city council has yet approve any casino development within city limits, several casino developers have already unveiled plans to the media and councillors.

One such development – and the most controversial at Parkway Mall – was a proposal by MGM Resorts International for a casino at Exhibition Place.
MGM’s proposal included three million square feet of space – eight per cent of which would be dedicated to a casino – and one million square feet dedicated to retail space and a hotel.

The few supporters of a casino spoke up at Parkway Mall suggested thousands of jobs could be created by building a casino.
However, detractors point to potential health concerns and congestion issues as reasons to oppose the massive development at Exhibition Place.
