RCMP vehicle pursuit from Strathmore through Calgary results in arrest

Charges are expected to be laid against a man after RCMP and Calgary Police followed him from Strathmore through Calgary, ending near Airdrie.

At around 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, RCMP were called out to a report of a robbery involving a firearm near Wrangler Park, Rocky View County.

Strathmore RCMP said the suspect allegedly stole a Ford F-350. The vehicle was seen heading into Calgary.

Soon after, Calgary Police became involved when the vehicle was seen parked at the Mountain View Cemetery. A HAWCS helicopter followed the suspect vehicle north on Deerfoot Trail. Police say the vehicle was driving at high speed and in a dangerous manner.

Eventually the vehicle became stuck in a field southwest of Balzac, where the 32-year-old driver was arrested. The suspect is expected to face a number of charges according to RCMP, including possession of a controlled substance, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, impaired driving and dangerous driving.
