2 men in hospital, 2 OPP officers injured in incident early Friday: SIU

TORONTO – The province’s police watchdog says four people are injured – including two police officers – following an incident that began at a RIDE check in Brampton, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit says two provincial police officers operating the RIDE program were struck early Friday morning by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Reports say the officers suffered minor injuries.

The SIU says police followed the vehicle, which crashed a short time later in northwest Toronto.

The occupants of the SUV – a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old man – were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
