16-year-old girl charged in Saskatoon shooting death

A 16-year-old girl has been charged in the shooting death of a teen.

Saskatoon police were called to the 500-block of Avenue J South in the early morning hours of June 3 for a report of an injured person.

A 15-year-old boy was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released at the request of his family.

Following an autopsy, police said they were investigating the death as a homicide.

The girl was charged Thursday morning with criminal negligence by discharging a firearm causing death.

Her name cannot be released under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

She will appear Thursday afternoon in Saskatoon provincial court.
