Winnipeg Jets’ free agent goalie lands in Charlotte

The Winnipeg Jets have one less free agent on the open market.

The Charlotte Checkers announced they’ve signed goalie Jamie Phillips to an American Hockey League contract.

Phillips, 25, became an unrestricted free agent when he was not given a qualifying offer by the Jets in June.

He split time between the AHL and the ECHL last season. Phillips appeared in 16 regular season games with the Manitoba Moose and another 16 games with the Jacksonville Icemen. In the AHL Phillips had a 6-7 record with a 2.76 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.

The Jets selected Phillips in the seventh round, 190th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Winnipeg has just four unrestricted free agents remaining with Toby Enstrom, Shawn Matthias, Julian Melchiori and Jimmy Lodge all still without contracts.
