Police seize imitation gun, charge youth in Melfort Fair incident

A teen is facing multiple charges after a gun incident at the Melfort Fair.

Police were called to the fair Friday evening after receiving a report a man was on the fairgrounds armed with a gun.

Melfort RCMP said an altercation took place between a man and three women, but no shots were fired and no injuries reported.

Three persons of interest were identified and taken into custody. Police were searching for a fourth person, but believed there was no risk to public safety.

A gun was seized and police said it was an imitation firearm.

A 15-year-old Tisdale boy is facing 10 charges, including use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, careless use of a firearm, and pointing a firearm.

His name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Melfort provincial court.

Melfort is roughly 160 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.
