Wednesday marked a painful anniversary for the family of a Surrey teen found slain in a rural area last year.

On Aug. 2, 2017, Kiran Dhesi’s body was found in a burned-out SUV in the 18700-block of 24 Avenue.

At the time, homicide investigators said she was “murdered” in a different location.

Dhesi was a student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and had received a kidney transplant just a few months earlier.

Her uncle, Kulwant Dhesi, said one year later the family is still reeling.

Hours after Dehsi’s body was found, police descended on a Surrey house where they conducted a week-long search.

Details of the warrant that led to the search were sealed by the courts, and police would not confirm whether the search and Dhesi’s death were linked.

No one has been charged in the death, and no suspects have been publicly named.
