Hamilton fire crews have rescued two young hikers who fell from Dundas Peak on Friday morning.
First responders were called to the scene just before 8:30 a.m.
Officials said a female, 17, has suffered serious injuries. The second person, whom officials initially described as a teenager but later said was a 20-year-old man, has also been transported to hospital.
“Firefighters were able to locate the first patient from below by walking up the trails. The second patient was located by a rope rescue team from the top,” said Deputy Fire Chief John Verbeek.
“We dispatched some additional resources to the scene because it became apparent that we had to do two rope rescues at the same time.”

It took crews close to four hours to secure the hikers.

“We have a lot of trails here in the city along the edge of the escarpment. It’s just important that when you’re out on the trails you stay on the marked trails, you stay away from the edges,” said Verbeek.
This rope rescue is one of three executed by fire crews in the city this year. One of those rescues was a medical distress call not a fall.
By this time last year, Verbeek says crews had already handled 16 rope rescue calls.
