Authorities say a pedestrian is in life-threatening condition after being struck by a vehicle in Toronto’s east end on Friday afternoon.
Toronto police were called to the area of Gerrard Street East and Victoria Park Avenue at about 1:40 p.m.
The victim, who police said is believed to be a man in his 20s, was unconscious but breathing after being struck by the vehicle. Paramedics described his injuries as life-threatening. He was sent to a trauma centre.
Witnesses said that the man was attempting to cross the street mid-block when he was struck by an eastbound car.

The vehicle involved remained on scene, police said. The driver told Global News that the victim was sprinting and appeared to be on a cellphone at the time.

Gerrard Street East is closed between Dengate Road and Lawlor Avenue.
