Arrest made in weekend sexual assault of teenage girl

CALGARY – Police have arrested a 30-year-old man in connection to a sexual assault this weekend.

A female in her teens was in the downtown core on Saturday, when she was approached by a man who asked her to spend time with him.

The victim eventually separated from the man to use a public washroom, but says he followed her in and sexually assaulted her.

The teen was able to fight off her attacker and run from the washroom, calling for help. A number of bystanders came to the girl’s aid, chasing after the suspect.

Witnesses weren’t able to stop the suspect, but he was later located and arrested.

Daniel Christopher Mahon is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, overcoming resistance by choking and breach of recognizance.

He is in police custody, and scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, April 11, 2013.
