REGINA – Saskatchewan’s NDP Opposition leader says the government should post information on gay-straight alliances as a way to ensure schools are safe.
Cam Broten says promoting such alliances on the Education Ministry’s website makes common sense.
Premier Brad Wall responded in question period by saying it wouldn’t be fair just to promote one group.

The exchange came the same week that the community of Eston brought in an anti-bullying bylaw.
Teasing and name-calling in the small town could now result in a fine or even jail time.
Wall said a balance needs to be struck between religious freedom, safety in schools and moving forward with an anti-bullying message.
“I think, in all matters, we want to make sure we’re balancing all the rights that are protected in Canada’s constitution and the human rights code,” he said.
Broten said Wall’s response concerns him.
“Instead of looking at the merit of the proposal … we saw the premier talk about the issue of religious freedom, suggesting that simply providing information on the website would infringe on religious freedom.
