The city of Vancouver is encouraging people to recycle their food scraps to help reduce greenhouse gases and organic waste going to the landfill.

Starting next month, Vancouver residents living in a house or duplex can add all food scraps and yard waste to their green bin

This includes items like meat, fish, bones, and other foods not normally composted at home.

Garbage pick-up will go down to once every two weeks, while green bins will be picked up weekly starting on May 1.

The city says removing organic waster from landfills would reduce greenhouse gases equal to taking 10,000 cars off the road.
