The city of Toronto is now accepting summer job applications for camps, aquatic programs and various recreations programs.
The recruitment drive for camps will run until Feb. 4 and all others to Feb. 15. Aquatic positions are ongoing.
“We need young people to be encouraged in their job efforts without exception, no matter who they are, where they live, where they’ve come from, what their background is,” Mayor John Tory told reporters during news conference at the Pam McConnell Aquatic Centre Monday morning.
“They need to be encouraged that they’re going to have a fair opportunity to embrace these opportunities and to have them.”
Positions still vacant will be filled outside of the regular recruitment period.
The city’s parks, forestry and recreation department employs 9,000 recreation workers and about 17 per cent of these positions are filled by new hires each year.
