Ontario’s police watchdog appealing for witnesses in incident involving Ottawa police officer

The Special Investigations Unit is looking for potential witnesses to an alleged incident that occurred in late December involving an Ottawa police officer that sent a man to hospital.

According to the SIU, at around 8 a.m. on Dec. 31, the officer was in his cruiser when he observed a dispute between a man and a woman in the area of Booth and Wellington streets.

The officer exited his cruiser and, soon after, became involved in an “interaction” with the 26-year-old man, the SIU said. Additional officers arrived, and the man was apprehended.

The man was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury.

The SIU is asking anyone who may have information on this incident to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529, ext. 9035. The unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video to the SIU website.
