A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody by Hamilton police.

Officers were called to Ancaster High School around 3 p.m. Thursday with a report of a boy waving a firearm outside the school.

The school was placed under hold and secure protocol while police located and arrested the suspect, but the protocol was lifted about 15 minutes later.

Police say the boy was in possession of a replica firearm and charges are pending.
