A three-alarm blaze in the second floor of a building in Chinatown is now ‘under control,’ Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg says.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at Spadina Avenue and Dundas Street West, just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Crews had been battling the fire for three hours before firefighters were able to get it under control at around 1 p.m.
Pegg said firefighters originally had to go from the offensive to the defensive “as a result of some excessively unsafe conditions in the building.”
Earlier reports said a firefighter was injured. Pegg said he has been assessed by Toronto paramedics and has been cleared.
There were no other reported injuries.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.

Thirteen firetrucks and 50 firefighters were on scene.
Dundas Street was blocked between Kensington and Spadina avenues and Spadina Avenue was closed in both directions at St. Andrews Street, but all roads have since been reopened.
Pegg said the Hazardous Materials Unit was on scene, but only as a precaution.
