Latest scam asks people to accept Manitoba Hydro refund

Manitoba Hydro is warning customers not to clink on a link urging customers to collect an outstanding refund.

The message is sent through a text message asking customers for their banking information, according to Bruce Owen, Media Relations Officer of Manitoba Hydro.

Owen says at least 36 people in Brandon have reported the scam to Hydro, and two people have unknowingly clicked the link,

Other corporations such as Netflix is also being impersonated by the scammers, Owen says.

Manitoba Metis Federation issued a scam notice, warning Hydro customers not to click the link and instead call Manitoba Hydro.

Owen said many Manitobans lose thousands of dollars yearly due to scams. He stressed that young teens with cellphones are at risk for the scam and suggests reminding your children of the risk.
