Peel Regional Police say a man is in custody after a 74-year-old woman was found dead in Mississauga.

Police said they responded to a call at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday and located a female victim at a home on Rushton Crescent just north of Burnhamthorpe Road.

“Upon arrival our officers located a 74-year-old woman that was deceased and a male from the residence was taken into custody,” Const. Akhil Mooken told reporters at the scene on Tuesday.

Authorities said they are not looking for any outstanding suspects and there is no danger to the public.

Police did not reveal how the woman died or the circumstances surrounding her death.

The relationship between the man and the woman has not been released. Police say they both resided at the home.

The homicide unit and the missing persons bureau has taken over the investigation.
