Winnipeg police bust suspect for pointing gun at off-duty cop

A Winnipeg man has been arrested in connection with an incident early Sunday morning in which a gun was pointed at an off-duty police officer.

The officer was reportedly leaving work around 2:40 a.m., when he was approached by a man who engaged him in a conversation.  Police said the man produced a gun as the officer was driving away.

A suspect was taken into custody early Monday afternoon in the downtown area.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of individually-packaged baggies of cocaine and one 9 mm bullet.

Mitchell Dean Beardy, 38, is currently in custody facing charges of aggravated assault of a peace officer, cocaine possession for the purpose of trafficking, and numerous firearm offences.
