Trent University topped its fundraising goal with a record $114,328 donation to the United Way Peterborough and District on Wednesday morning.
Last year, the university raised $103,000; yhis year the goal was $100,000,
“We really challenged our faculty, staff and retirees by setting a $100,000 goal for the 2018 campaign – our highest ever,” said Julie Davis, vice-president, External Relations & Advancement. “Trent University’s annual campaign is the largest corporate campaign in the community and it’s an important way for us to give back and support the Peterborough region.”
United Way cabinet member Michael Nasello, education director for the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland, says Wednesday’s donation of $114,328 is “awe-inspiring.”
“This is humbling and speaks to the quality of educators and educational institutions in Peterborough and their commitment to the community,” Nasello said.

Trent University has supported the United Way since 1965 and has raised more than $2 million for the organization.
Launched in October with a kick-off BBQ, faculty, staff and retirees gave through payroll pledges and donations. Trent’s United Way campaign was also supported by many employee-led special events, including a chili cook-off, white elephant tables, and a gift basket raffle before the holidays.

The United Way will wrap up its 2018 campaign on March 27 with a ceremony at Showplace Performance Centre at 11:45 a.m. The United Way helps provide support a number of community organizations.
“Trent University is setting the standard for leadership and employee engagement in the annual campaign,” stated United Way Peterborough CEO Jim Russell.
“Not only have they raised the most money this year, they maintain their unofficial title of best damn burgers during campaign.”
