POINT TUPPER, N.S. – Nova Scotia Power says a new biomass-fueled plant in Cape Breton is expected to start generating electricity next month.
Roger Burton, the utility’s senior director of projects, says construction is now complete on the $183-million facility in Point Tupper.

Burton says the privately owned utility is expected to buy roughly 500,000 tonnes of biomass fuel for the 60-megawatt plant.
He says the plant is expected to be fully operational in the summer once additional testing is done.
Burton says the project is expected to create more than 200 direct and indirect jobs.
