Child in life-threatening condition, 3 injured after crash in Toronto’s east end

Toronto police say a seven-year-old boy is in life-threatening condition after two-vehicle crash in the city’s east end on Monday.

Emergency crews were called to the Pharmacy Avenue and Huntingwood Drive area, north of Sheppard Avenue East, at around 5:50 p.m.

Police said a 34-year-old man was driving north on Pharmacy Avenue in a silver Nissan when a blue Honda, driven by a 37-year-old woman, was travelling west on Huntingwood Drive.

Investigators said the vehicles collided and one of those vehicles was forced into a light pole. Two children, a boy and a girl, in the blue Honda that hit the pole were injured.

A Toronto Paramedics spokesperson told Global News a pediatric patient was taken to the Hospital for Sick Children in serious condition. Three other people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the seven-year-old-boy was the passenger in the back seat, behind the driver, in the blue Honda. The boy’s condition was downgraded to life-threatening from serious.

They also said an eight-year-old girl was the passenger in the back seat, behind the front-passenger seat, in the blue Honda. She suffered minor injuries.

Investigators are still probing the circumstances leading up to the collision.
