Burlington girl competing in Scripps National Spelling Bee finals

A Burlington girl was one of dozens of kids who made it into the finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Enya Hubers, 13, was competing for more than $50,000 in cash and prizes and a new, custom-designed trophy until she bowed out in the eighth round.

She incorrectly spelled the word Pallottine – a member of a Roman Catholic religious society founded in 1835 to aid mission work especially among immigrants.

The eighth grader who is home-schooled previously competed in 2017 when she tied for 23rd place.

She tied for tenth last year.
