CALGARY – A five-year-old girl is recovering in hospital after taking a tumble out of a second-storey window in the city’s southeast, Monday night.

Police say the young girl was playing with two other children when the screen of an open window gave way.

She was rushed to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in serious but stable condition.

At first, there were serious concerns about her head injuries – but the latest reports indicate say she is awake and talking.

EMS are using the incident as a reminder to parents that widows left open can pose a serious risk for children.

They say windows should be locked and checked, and furniture that can be climbed on should be moved away from window openings.
