One fatality in crash on Highway 16 near Springside, Sask.: RCMP

A two-vehicle collision on Highway 16, west of Springside, Sask., has left one dead and another injured, according to RCMP.

It was initially reported that there were three vehicles involved, but the RCMP is now clarifying there was one SUV and a semi involved.

They said the crash happened at about 8 p.m. on Thursday when a semi travelling westbound collided with the SUV travelling eastbound.

The SUV driver was killed as a result of the collision, according to RCMP. The driver of the semi was treated for his injuries at a hospital in Yorkton and has since been released.

RCMP and emergency services were both called to the scene, and parts of Highway 16 were closed for an extended period of time. It re-opened at 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Efforts are ongoing to notify the SUV driver’s next-of-kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
