A young man’s act of courage is being recognized today.
Cole Small, just 18-year-old and an employee of the Portland hotel, is being honoured for his role in helping to save the life of one of its residents.

Bill Thompson wasn’t feeling well last March.
Small and a co-worker checked on him throughout the night, but in the early morning Thompson went into full cardiac arrest.
Small jumped into action and began performing CPR.
“I just knew I had to deal with the situation, so I literally just picked him up, and started compressions and dialing 911,” says Small.
His quick thinking in those minutes before emergency crews arrived likely saved Thompson’s life.
