Toronto police say one woman has died and another woman is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle near Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood on Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to St. Clair Avenue West and Castleton Avenue, near Runnymede Road, just after 10 a.m.

Toronto Paramedics told Global News that two women were hit. One woman suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and the other woman had life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said two women were crossing from the south side to the north side of the road when they were struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Castleton Avenue attempting to make a left turn.

Police said Monday afternoon that an 83-year-old woman died and that a 66-year-old woman remains in serious condition.

The 52-year-old driver, in a white van, remained on scene and offered assistance, police said.

Officers have closed St. Clair Avenue West between Mould Avenue and Runnymede Road in both directions for the investigation.

This is the second pedestrian fatality in Toronto on Monday after a man was killed at the Don Mills Road and Eglinton Avenue East intersection earlier.
