OTTAWA – The public safety minister is dismissing concerns that Canada’s top Mountie went too far in levelling harsh words at some disgruntled RCMP members.
In the House of Commons, Liberal MP Judy Sgro said RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson should offer a public apology for chastising members who have complained of harassment.

At a recent Senate committee meeting, Paulson took exception to the complaints brought forward by three members and accused some Mounties of being out of step with his efforts modernize the police force.
Sgro says that rather than fixing employee problems, the commissioner went on the attack by painting the complainants in a negative light.
When asked if he still had full confidence in Paulson, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews acknowledged that harassment is a problem at the RCMP.
But he sidestepped any concerns about Paulson’s comments, instead urging passage of a government bill that would revamp disciplinary procedures within the force.
