Rider calendar brings in $178,000 for KidSport

Every year the SaskEnergy Saskatchewan Roughriders Calendar raises thousands of dollars for KidSport – but the 2010 version has exceeded all expectations.
Almost 9,000 calendars were sold, which is 3,000 more than normally sold in a single year. Over $178,000 was raised. That is $67,000 more than the 2009 version.
KidSport helps thousands of Saskatchewan children participate in sports if they come from families facing financial obstacles.
Thanks to the increase in sales from the calendar, KidSport is able to boost the amount of money each child can receive to help with sporting costs.
“We are now able to give up to $300 per grant, which is an increase,” Chair of KidSport Saskatchewan Don McDougall said. “It’s because of projects like this particular one that we’re able to do that for the children that need the money so they can get involved in sport.”

Plans for the 2011 calendar are currently underway. They will be available in August 2010.
