Okanagan Connector reopened after dangerous goods vehicle fire

The Okanagan Connector has been reopened following an earlier closure because of a dangerous goods vehicle fire.

According to DriveBC, motorists can expect single-lane traffic and delays.

The vehicle fire happened on the stretch of road between Merritt and Aspen Grove, west of Corbett Lake.

There was no word on any injuries or what kind of dangerous goods were being transported on the highway.

According to Merritt RCMP, a report of a commercial truck fire was received at approximately 1 a.m., along Highway 97C, between the Coquihalla junction and the Aspen Grove junction.

Police say the commercial truck’s contents were determined to be extremely volatile, which prompted the highway’s closure while crews worked to assess the fire for safety.

Police added that Transport Canada has been notified of the incident, and that anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to contact the Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
