Canada’s weather agency says “significant” rainfall is on the way for Hamilton and the surrounding area on the weekend which could have an impact on nearby roadways.
Environment Canada said in a weather statement on Thursday morning that light rain will develop Friday night and build into heavier rain by Saturday afternoon. The rain is then expected to change to freezing rain in the evening before turning into a combination of wind and flurries on Sunday morning.
Total rainfall from Friday night through to Sunday morning is expected to be between 25 and 50 mm, according to Environment Canada.

In light of the expected rainfall, the Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA) has issued a Flood Watch for the area, saying that there will be significant increases in water levels and flows in local bodies of water.
There could also be significant amounts of runoff, made worse by the partially frozen and wet soil conditions within the watershed.
HCA says it will be monitoring conditions as the forecast develops, but the flood watch will remain in effect until Tuesday Jan. 14, when it will either be updated or cancelled.
